Collecting Smiles

Community Engagement Project.

Collecting Smiles is a film-making unit of work in which students write, act, direct and film a short video at selected public venues. Interacting in a socially acceptable, positive manner, students present flowers to the general public in exchange for a smile, capturing people’s reactions on film.

Students use the creative, technological pursuit of film-making to interact with local community members in a positive manner so that theĀ  “Collecting Smiles” project delivers outcomes specifically targeting community engagement in schools.

This project has been shown to:

  • Increase student school attendance and engagement
  • Increase positive and meaningful social interaction between students and local community members

Students will achieve a wide variety of learning outcomes integrated within Literacy, Numeracy, HSIE, Science and technology, Creative Arts and PDHPE.
